"The Road Home"
"The Road Home", oil on canvas, 18x24, framed, ties for my favorite representational painting. The first version of this painting was done en plein air in Door County, Wisconsin. My rental car was parked on this lane, my easel and all its accompanying paraphernalia perfectly positioned in early light of Sunday morning. Sure...the owner of the home hidden in the trees needed to get out for church. Every plein air painter has hundreds of stories to tell about painting outdoors. I think I'll write a book sometime as I know you will want to know about the huge prickly pear thorn that pierced all the way through my leather boot into my foot or the time the wind caught my easel's umbrella and threw the easel and everything else into river beside which I was standing. I lost my brushes in the current.
